The Federal Fire Service, Zaria Area Command, responded to a near-miss fire incident at night and provided standby cover to minimize all potential ignition sources and facilitate evacuation procedures.
In a press statements issued by ASF Umar D. Adamu, Public Relations Officer Zaria Area Command said,the incident was reported to the station at about 8:39 p.m. by Malam Bello Garban via a phone call, who briefed officials on the situation along Kongo Junction, Agwaro–Yan’nono U-turn, Tudun Wada, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Upon arrival, the crew, led by ASF Ibrahim Salisu, discovered that a truck conveying approximately 15,000 liters of diesel in one of its compartments had sunk into an ongoing culvert reconstruction site. The situation could have been very alarming and potentially caused serious harm to lives and property if prompt measures were not taken.
The situation was brought under control after a successful evacuation operation was completed around 10:00 p.m. through coordinated efforts by firefighters and officers of the Tudun Wada Police Division, who cordoned off the area.
According to Malam Musa, the driver of the truck belonging to AY Shafa Energies Transport Unit, he was on his way to the AY Shafa filling station in Tudun Wada to offload the remaining diesel when he attempted to turn at an improvised U-turn close to a bridge under construction at Agwaro.
He realized the road was too narrow for the truck to turn, causing the rear tires to sink into the construction area. Further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause.
The Federal Fire Service urges truck drivers to always adhere to safety guidelines when transporting high-risk materials to minimize the risk of fire disasters.
