The 1998/1999 Alumni of Government Secondary School, Kofar Kibo, Zaria city, held their 28th anniversary Annual General Meeting and reunion, which featured a special reception in honour of their first professor.
Speaking at the event, the President of the set, Abubakar Dalhatu Sarki Buba, said the union was established for three main purposes: Mutual support among members, assistance to their alma mater, and the promotion of unity and friendship.
He stated that the union has recorded significant progress since its establishment, adding that given the current economic challenges, it has become necessary for those who are financially capable to support less-privileged members of the set.
According to him, the union always prioritises pressing needs as they arise.
He commended members for their continued unity, cooperation, and commitment to carrying out activities for the sake of God, expressing hope that younger sets would emulate their dedication to charitable causes.
He also expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event and other philanthropic activities of the union.
In his remarks, the school principal, Malam Zubairu, thanked the alumni for their support and expressed happiness over the progress being recorded by the school.
He, however, noted that the school is facing challenges, particularly the shortage of laboratory equipment for practical examinations.
The honouree, Professor Mu’azu, expressed gratitude and delight over the recognition accorded to him.
He said their journey from classmates to brothers remains a source of pride, wishing everyone success in life.
He advised students to remain focused and committed to their studies so they could one day attain similar heights.
One of the Alumni, Sama’ila Tajuddeen Bamalli, described the initiative as a great service whose impact only God can fully measure.
He said the reunion was a joyful opportunity for reconnection after a long period, describing it as historic, especially in celebrating the academic achievement of one of their own.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade Usman Umar, said despite the challenges of life, members have continued to support the development of the school.
He stressed that the importance of alumni associations in societal and educational development cannot be overemphasised.
As part of the event, the union also designated a batch sign at the front of the school gate and donated ₦50,000 in cash to orphans of deceased classmates.
Some members, including Madu Ibrahim Mamu, expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the gesture.
