The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has concluded a landmark accreditation, reaccreditation, resource inspection and institutional reaccreditation exercise at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, aimed at strengthening academic standards and technical education delivery.
The exercise, which ended on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, was held at the Engineering Twin Theatre after briefings by team leaders who assessed 60 academic programmes, making it the largest accreditation exercise in the history of the institution.
The exercise was coordinated by the Rector, Engr. Muhammad Kabir Abdullahi, PhD, who led the Polytechnic’s engagement with the NBTE team.
Speaking at the exit meeting, the Head of the NBTE Accreditation Team, Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar, who is also the Director of the Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department, noted some challenges observed during the exercise.
She explained that the non-payment of Imprest to Departments by the Polytechnic management was the major challenge. Stressing that Polytechnic education is hands-on and therefore require funds to buy consumables at all times.
Responding, the Rector clarified that the Polytechnic operates under the Treasury Single Account (TSA) system, which places all revenues under central control, and that the institution currently does not receive imprest.
He assured the NBTE team that management had intensified efforts to secure funding from Kaduna State government that would enable the payment of monthly imprest to Deans, Heads of Departments and other academic units.
The Rector further commended the NBTE team for its professionalism, guidance and support, describing the exercise as a learning process that would help the Polytechnic improve its academic delivery and institutional standards.
The Rector also expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government for its continuous support to the Polytechnic and the education sector in the state. He commended the government for its interventions in infrastructure development, staff welfare and academic growth, noting that such support has contributed significantly to improving teaching, learning and institutional stability at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic.
According to him, the commitment of the state government to education remains a key factor in the institution’s progress and readiness for national accreditation exercises.
Meanwhile, a statement issued a day earlier by the Director of the Carrier ServiceandPolytechnicAdvancementCenter(CSPAC), Engineer Aliyu Musa Kofa, had announced the hosting of the NBTE for the landmark exercise.
According to the statement, the accreditation covered 60 academic programmes and included resource inspection for new programmes such as ND Renewable Energy, ND Mechatronics, Welding and Fabrication, ND Procurement and Supply, ND Common Law, ND Civil Law, ND Library and Information Science, HND Mechanical Engineering, HND Software and Web Development, and HND Networking and Cloud Computing.
Aliyu Kofa said management had called on staff, students and alumni to give full cooperation to ensure a successful exercise, as the Polytechnic continues to strengthen its role as a leading centre for technical and professional education in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Dr. Amsa Ndem, who coordinated activities in some communication-related departments, commended the Rector for embracing the digital accreditation process introduced by the NBTE and thanked staff for their cooperation throughout the exercise.
