Mewar International University (MIU) Masaka, Nassarawa State, has formally welcomed over 400 newly admitted students into its academic community during the 2026/2027 matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, 7th February 2026.
Delivering his address, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Engr. Abubakar Sani Bello, described the ceremony as a new beginning and congratulated the students for earning admission into the institution.
“You have worked hard to get here, and today you officially become members of the Mewar International University academic family,” he said.
Engr. Bello encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity before them, charging them to be disciplined in conduct, bold in vision, and steadfast in character.
According to him, the future belongs to those who work for it, adding that the world is waiting for the ideas, solutions, and leadership of the new generation.
He also expressed deep appreciation to parents and guardians for their trust in the university, assuring them of management’s unwavering commitment to providing a safe and intellectually stimulating environment where students can thrive.
Delivering the matriculation lecture, Professor A. O. Lawal, Deputy Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY), described matriculation as more than a mere academic ritual.
“Matriculation is a formal covenant between the students and the university. While it confers rights, it also imposes responsibilities,” Professor Lawal noted, urging the students to uphold discipline, integrity, and commitment to learning throughout their stay in the university.
In a goodwill message delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Academics, Professor Olabode Agunbiade, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Tanko, appreciation was expressed to parents, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support to the institution.
He said that Mewar International University as the first Indian-type university in Africa, established to deliver quality education that meets both national and international standards.
Professor Agunbiade explained that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to programmes in the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, and Computing and Sciences, while the university is optimistic about securing full accreditation for programmes such as Nursing Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Physiotherapy, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Mass Communication.
He further revealed that the Council of Legal Education (CLE) has granted the university approval to mount a Bachelor’s Degree programme in Law, describing it as a major milestone.
He added that MIU is set to commence postgraduate programmes in Accounting, Public Administration, Entrepreneurship Education, Finance, Economics, and several programmes in the Faculty of Sciences and Computing.
On discipline, Professor Agunbiade emphasized the university’s zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse.
In his contribution, the Acting Bursar, Alhaji Abdulkadir Maude, explained the university’s structured and flexible fee payment system, noting that tuition and hostel fees can be paid in instalments.
He warned that students who fail to meet payment deadlines would not be allowed to sit for examinations.
The Acting Controller of Examinations, represented by Abdul Hamid Idris, alongside the Director of Sports and Examinations Officer, Mr. Muhammad Umar, also addressed the students on examination ethics, punctuality, and the prohibition of mobile phones and other unauthorised materials in examination halls.
As part of the ceremony, the university honoured about 100 staff members with Distinguished Service Awards, each accompanied by a cash prize of ₦20,000, in recognition of their dedication and contributions to the growth of the institution.
The event was further enlivened by a cultural performance staged by students and staff of the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, adding colour and excitement to the ceremony.
The matriculation ceremony ended with goodwill messages and prayers, as the university management reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who are academically excellent, morally upright, and globally competitive.
