Former Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmad, has declared that the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is now the only credible opposition capable of replacing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the government of deliberately weakening rival political parties instead of focusing on governance.
Speaking shortly after formally joining PRP, Baba-Ahmad alleged that the APC had made the “destruction of other political parties” a central objective of its administration, at the expense of improving security and the economy.
According to him, several opposition parties have been destabilized, including his former party, the Labour Party, which he claimed was infiltrated to create internal crises.
“A person was deployed to the Labour Party with the specific assignment of making life difficult for the party, and I will not be part of that arrangement,” he said.
Baba-Ahmad said PRP survived what he described as political interference because its current chairman unexpectedly exited the APC government and took up leadership of the party — a move he claimed was not anticipated.
He described PRP as having “a new lease of life,” with what he called clean and incorruptible leadership, predicting that the party would soon witness a surge in membership nationwide.
The former vice-presidential candidate argued that while other opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) face uncertain futures, PRP is gaining momentum at a time when others are either “aligning with APC” or weakening.
On his political ambition, Baba-Ahmad said he had only just joined PRP as a loyal and obedient member and would abide by collective decisions of the party going forward.
Delivering a message to Nigerian voters, he urged citizens to recognize their collective power to effect change through the ballot.
Baba-Ahmad concluded by reaffirming his commitment to PRP, saying he would not associate with any political arrangement that, in his view, deceives Nigerians.
The development signals a potential realignment within Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of future electoral contests.
In his remarks the PRP Chairman Zaria Local Government Nasiru Aliyu welcome Senator Baba Ahmed to the Party and assured him their full support and cooperations at all time.
Senator Datti Baba Ahmed was accompanied along side with former Chief of Staff to Governor Namadi Sambo administration in Kaduna state Alhaji Audi Mohammed, Alhaji Najume a former Chairman of the defunct ANPP Zaria Local Government.
