Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has inducted 47 pharmacy graduates into the pharmacy profession, charging them to uphold professional ethics, integrity and the high standards associated with the university.
The oath-taking and induction ceremony for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic session was held at the Yusuf Bala Usman Hall, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Bello Sabo, urged the graduates to carry the core values of the university into their professional lives, particularly excellence, service, integrity and commitment to humanity.
Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharmacist Ibrahim BabaShehu Ahmed, represented by the Director of Education and Training, Anthony Idoko, advised the graduates to remain focused and take their professional responsibilities seriously as they enter the next phase of their careers.
He commended the university management for the quality of training provided to the graduates and urged the newly inducted pharmacists to maintain the high standards associated with ABU.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, ABU, Professor Muhammad Garba Magaji, explained that the 47 graduates had undergone a rigorous minimum five-year Bachelor of Pharmacy programme before being administered the professional oath.
He said the induction marked an important transition, as the graduates had now been formally admitted into the pharmacy profession, although they would proceed to undertake their mandatory internship before obtaining full professional practice status.
Professor Magaji urged the new pharmacists to become good ambassadors of the pharmacy profession, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ahmadu Bello University.
Also speaking, the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr Shuaibu Aliyu, congratulated the graduates on reaching what he described as an important milestone in their lives, advising them to understand that graduation was not the end of their journey but the beginning of another phase filled with new challenges and opportunities.
He urged them to continuously develop their skills, embrace innovation and distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive professional environment, noting that the number of pharmacy schools and graduates in Nigeria had continued to increase, making it necessary for young pharmacists to acquire additional skills and explore emerging areas of the profession.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Dr Najib Usman expressed appreciation to the university for successfully transforming their children into professionals and acknowledged the sacrifices made by parents throughout the educational journey, including financial support, encouragement, phone calls and constant reminders to their children to remain focused and keep moving forward.
The ceremony brought together university officials, professional regulators, academics, families and friends to celebrate the successful transition of the graduates into the pharmacy profession.
