The annual cultural carnival organised by students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has continued to attract widespread attention, as students from different cultural backgrounds came together to celebrate Nigeria’s rich and colourful heritage.

Held at the Maman Kontagora Square on the university campus, the event brought together a vibrant gathering of students, government representatives, entrepreneurs, entertainers and members of the university community, creating an atmosphere filled with music, traditional displays, fashion and cultural pride.

The carnival, which is organised annually by the students, provides a unique platform for showcasing the diverse traditions, customs and cultural identities that make Nigeria a nation of many peoples and cultures.

On the second day of this year’s programme, the venue was transformed into a colourful display of Nigeria’s cultural diversity, with male and female students appearing in beautifully designed traditional outfits and presenting cultural artefacts, practices and performances from different parts of the country.
Participants from Kaduna State and other parts of Nigeria used the occasion to proudly display their traditional attire, cultural materials and unique ways of life, giving spectators an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and richness of the country’s diverse heritage.

Beyond cultural displays, the carnival also served as a platform for promoting entrepreneurship and creativity among young people, as businesses and artisans were given space to showcase their products and services.

Among those who took advantage of the opportunity were dealers in mobile phones and telecommunications accessories, specialists in body care and bridal make-up, perfume and fragrance vendors, as well as male and female fashion designers who displayed a wide range of products and creative works.

The event was further enlivened by music, comedy and other forms of entertainment, as popular performers took to the stage to thrill the enthusiastic audience.

Popular love singer Ahmady DJ-HB was among the entertainers who captivated the crowd with his performance, while Sir Sodiom added a touch of humour to the occasion through his comedy, drawing laughter and excitement from participants.

The presence of government representatives also added colour and significance to the event, with the officials expressing their support for the students’ initiative and commending the effort to preserve and promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
The colourful carnival is being organised under the leadership of the President of the Students’ Representative Council of Ahmadu Bello University, Comrade Abdulrahman Halliru Saraki, whose administration has continued to provide platforms for students to showcase their talents, creativity and cultural identities.

The success of the programme also reflects the support and cooperation of the university management and other stakeholders committed to promoting student development and strengthening activities that contribute to a vibrant campus environment.

The leadership of the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, has also been associated with efforts to strengthen collaboration between the university, government institutions and other organisations in support of student activities and the broader development of the institution.

The cultural carnival therefore goes beyond entertainment, serving as a meeting point for culture, creativity, entrepreneurship, unity and youth development, while reminding participants and spectators of the richness of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.
As the colourful celebration continues, more exciting cultural displays, entertainment and activities are expected, with the programme scheduled to come to a close next Sunday.
