Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Comrade Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government and Northern states to support and adequately fund the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Cultural Festival, describing it as a major platform for promoting Nigerian culture, tourism and national identity.
Shehu Sani made the call on Saturday, August 15, 2026, while speaking with journalists during the ABUSRC Annual Durbar, organised as part of the ABUSRC Annual Cultural Carnival.
The former senator, who was the special guest at the event, commended the organisers for staging what he described as a colourful and impressive festival, particularly praising the students for their efforts to preserve and promote Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.
He said culture remains the identity and soul of every people, noting that the various cultural displays at the festival demonstrated the richness of Nigeria’s traditions.
Shehu Sani also described the event as an important tourism asset for Kaduna State and Nigeria, stressing that its benefits should extend beyond the university community.
He therefore called on the Northern states and the Federal Government to invest in the festival and give it wider recognition, saying it has the potential to attract national and international attention.
Shehu Sani further urged the organisers to sustain the initiative and introduce new and innovative activities every year, expressing optimism that continued improvement would transform the festival into a major cultural and tourism attraction that people from across Nigeria and beyond would look forward to attending.
