The Chairman of Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar Dembo, has stated that the local government will collaborate with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to improve the education sector in the area.
Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar disclosed this during an interview with Daily Naija Updates, shortly after a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar emphasized that education is the foundation of every society’s development and a guiding light in human life. He stressed that it is crucial for leaders to prioritize the education sector in order to foster development within their communities.
He added that he made the effort to travel from Bauchi State to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to engage with university authorities—especially as a former student of the institution.
He further stated that the purpose of his visit was to explore ways to establish a partnership between ABU Zaria and Toro Local Government, aimed at enhancing the education system in the local government area.
In his words: “We want to provide quality education to the people of the local government so that they can become a source of pride not just for Toro, but for Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.”
The chairman also pointed out that, as is widely known, Ahmadu Bello University is one of the top institutions offering quality distance learning programs—not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
He stated that the university’s distance learning program would enable youths to combine education with their daily responsibilities while earning undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. He expressed confidence that this would bring tremendous development to the youth of the local government.
He further assured that any support required by Toro Local Government would be provided by the university under the leadership of Professor Adamu Ahmad.
"Therefore, we are calling for the swift implementation of this collaboration so that our students can begin preparing for their studies in time," Hon. Abubakar stated.
He thanked the university for the warm reception, adding that Toro Local Government would strengthen its partnership with ABU to open more opportunities for youth, particularly in education.
Hon. Abubakar expressed optimism that the visit would mark the beginning of a new chapter of educational development in Toro and Bauchi State at large. He also appreciated all the leaders who supported the initiative, including councilors and district heads.
The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Adamu Ahmad, expressed his delight with the visit and confirmed the university’s readiness to collaborate with Toro Local Government in improving education and other aspects of community development. He commended the commitment of the local government leaders to education.
Similarly, the delegation visited the university’s Distance Learning Center, where they met with the center’s director, Professor Muhammad Bashir Mu’azu, to discuss ways to facilitate access to distance education for the youth of Toro Local Government in an easy and effective manner.
