Tuesday, October 7, marks five remarkable years since His Highness, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, LLD, ascended the prestigious throne of the Zazzau Emirate as the 19th Fulani Emir — and the first from the Mallawa ruling house in more than a century.
Following the passing of the late Emir, Alhaji Shehu Idris, who reigned for 45 years, the Kaduna State Government appointed Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli on October 7, 2020. His emergence was historic, blending deep-rooted tradition with modern leadership in one of Nigeria’s oldest and most influential emirates.
Over the past five years, the Zazzau Emirate has witnessed visible progress and reform under Emir Bamalli’s leadership.
He has prioritized education, youth empowerment, peace-building, and job creation, while modernizing the administrative structure of the emirate to reflect contemporary realities.
According to Engineer Balarabe Musa, the Garkuwan Ayyukan Zazzau, “We have seen tremendous growth in peace, youth employment, and modernization of the emirate. The ongoing construction of the new Central Mosque and the Emir’s commitment to public welfare are clear examples of his dedication to development.”
The Marafan Yamma of Zazzau, Alhaji Mustapha Adamu Ubaidu, said the Emir’s five-year reign has achieved what others might take decades to accomplish.
“We have witnessed remarkable changes in governance, infrastructure, and public life. We thank Almighty Allah for blessing us with such a visionary and forward-thinking leader,” he stated.
Similarly, the Arɗo of Zazzau, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, praised the Emir’s commitment to peace and justice, particularly his success in resolving conflicts between farmers and herders.
“Today, people from across various communities see Zazzau as a symbol of fairness and justice,” he said.
The Durumin Zazzau and District Head of Gubuchi, Dr. Bello Lawal, highlighted Emir Bamalli’s emphasis on discipline, time management, and moral integrity among district heads and council members.
“The Emir is a man of punctuality and integrity. When he sets a meeting for 9 a.m., he is there before anyone else. That attitude has inspired other leaders to adopt discipline and responsibility,” he explained.
The Sarkin Wusasa, Alhaji Isyaku Danlami Yusuf, noted that the Emir’s reign has brought significant improvements in staff welfare, education, and palace administration.
“Under Emir Bamalli, palace workers now receive their salaries through bank accounts, a learning center has been established for staff education, and the palace itself has been renovated with a modern design and better organization,” he said.
He also commended the Emir for uniting, Katsinawa, Barebari, and Sullubawa royal houses, ensuring equal representation and promoting peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths through interfaith engagements during Ramadan.
The Maharin Zazzau, Falau Umar, applauded the Emir’s leadership and the positive relationship between the emirate and the people.
“Relations between the emirate and its subjects have greatly improved. The progress we see today in administration and service delivery is something to be proud of,” he said.
The Sodangin Zazzau, Aminu Muntari Sambo, also described the Emir as a “modern and visionary leader” who has introduced efficiency and structure to the traditional institution.
“He has restored order and discipline within the emirate, ensuring everyone — from district heads to junior officials — understands hierarchy and respect for authority,” he noted.
The Sarkin Nagoyi, Alhaji Yusuf Ja’afaru, stated that visitors to the Zazzau Palace today can clearly see the transformation that has taken place.
“The new Jumu’at Mosque under construction will be one of the largest in Africa — a symbol of faith, unity, and progress,” he said.
Emir Bamalli has also continued to promote unity, interfaith harmony, and security awareness, emphasizing education and community development as the foundation for a stable society.
Five years into the reign of His Highness, Emir Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, the Zazzau Emirate stands as a beacon of progress, peace, and renewal.
His leadership has successfully blended tradition with modern governance, earning admiration and prayers from citizens who see him as a leader dedicated to the growth of Zazzau, Kaduna State, and Nigeria as a whole.
