As part of Day Three activities of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week campaign, the Federal Fire Service, Zaria Area Command, visited the popular Yan’Walda (Welders) cluster at Sabon Gari Modern Market to educate welders on measures to prevent fire incidents commonly associated with metalwork, gas cylinders, and electrical welding operations.
In a Press release signed by ASF II Kamaluddeen Shehu, Public Relations Officer, Federal Fire Service Zaria Area Command. said, the sensitisation event, held at the market square under the umbrella of the Sabon Gari Market Association (SAGAMA), brought together welders and other artisans from the Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Speaking during the engagement, the Area Commander, ACF Aminu Ahmadu, noted that welders remain one of the occupational groups most exposed to fire hazards due to the use of high-heat tools, open flames, and the nature of their work environment, which often contains flammable materials. He stressed the need for strict adherence to safety precautions to minimise the risk of fire outbreaks.
He further urged welders and allied artisans to prioritise safety in their daily activities, comply with fire regulations, and support national efforts aimed at reducing fire incidents in workshops, residential areas, and markets.
Additionally, ACF Aminu Ahmadu reaffirmed the Federal Fire Service’s commitment to maintaining continuous engagement with critical stakeholders to curb preventable fire outbreaks, especially during the dry and harmattan seasons.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Welders Association, Mr. Joshua Ojianya, expressed appreciation to the Federal Fire Service for choosing their market for the sensitisation programme.
He commended the practical demonstration of first-aid firefighting equipment, noting that it had significantly enhanced the welders’ capacity to handle incipient fires.
