The Anguwan Aska Development Association has presented Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismail, the lawmaker representing Zaria City Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, with an Award of Excellence and a Letter of Appreciation.
The association said the honour was in recognition of his significant contributions to the development of the community, particularly in the areas of education support and youth empowerment.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Association, Malam Yusuf Abdulaziz Pate, stated that the gathering was organised to appreciate the lawmaker’s dedication.
He noted that the construction of the major road linking Magajiya, Anguwan Liman, Anguwan Magajin Aska and Albarkawa was completed within three months, a milestone the community considers unprecedented since the return of democratic rule.
He added that residents—both young and old—are grateful for the lawmaker’s swift intervention and sustained support for education and youth development.
The association also submitted three key requests to Hon. Mahmud, which include:Establishment of a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC),Support for youth employment and job creation, and Assistance in facilitating environmental projects, particularly drainage and culverts.
In his response, Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismail thanked Allah for the day and expressed appreciation to the community for the recognition.
He prayed that Allah rewards them and preserves unity in Anguwan Aska.
On the request for a Primary Healthcare Centre, he explained that although the current state budget has already been finalised, the project will be included in the upcoming supplementary budget.
Regarding the environmental request, he urged the association to prepare three official letters addressed to the Local Government, State Government and Federal Government, assuring them that he would personally follow up on the submissions.
On youth employment, he acknowledged that government jobs are limited, which is why young people are being encouraged to pursue vocational skills.
He disclosed that the Kaduna State Government has established a vocational training school, and pledged that once admissions or recruitment begin, he will submit the names of qualified youths from Anguwan Aska for consideration.
To better understand community challenges, the lawmaker later toured the neighbourhood to assess conditions firsthand, reaffirming his commitment to further development.
Community members commended the gesture, describing it as a symbol of responsive and people-centred leadership.
