Islamic Cleric Urges Greater Support for Orphans in Society

By Hassan Ibrahim

An Islamic scholar and one of the Imams of Albabello Juma’at Mosque in Tudun Jukun, Zaria, Dr. Ibrahim Umar Kusfa, has emphasized the importance of supporting and caring for orphans in society.

Dr. Kusfa made the call during an interview with Daily Naija Updates in Zaria, where he highlighted the significant attention Islam gives to the welfare of orphans.

According to him, the Holy Qur’an clearly emphasizes the need to protect and care for orphans, stressing that they deserve proper attention and support to enable them live dignified and meaningful lives like other members of society.

The cleric explained that in Islam, an orphan is defined as a child who has lost his father while still young.

He further noted that feeding and assisting orphans is a highly rewarding act of worship in the sight of Allah (SWT), adding that caring for orphans is among the noble deeds that can lead a believer to Paradise.

Dr. Kusfa urged members of the Muslim community to understand that supporting orphans should not be limited to certain occasions alone.

He stressed that although the holy month of Ramadan is a period when many people show generosity to the less privileged, care for orphans should be a continuous responsibility throughout the year.

According to him, special attention during Ramadan can help ensure that orphans do not feel neglected and are able to experience the joy associated with religious celebrations, including the preparations and activities surrounding Eid festivities.

The cleric also emphasized the importance of enrolling orphans in school and ensuring they receive proper education and moral upbringing so they can grow into responsible members of society who will make their communities proud.

He therefore called on individuals and the wider Muslim community to prioritize the welfare of orphans as a means of earning blessings both in this world and in the hereafter.

Dr. Kusfa also urged people to always remain God-fearing and maintain good relationships with one another in their daily interactions.

He concluded with prayers for lasting peace, increased prosperity, and sustainable development within the society.
