Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha, popularly known as Khalid Soba, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Kaduna North (Zone 1) Senatorial District following a peaceful and hitch-free primary election conducted across the zone on Saturday.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer for Zone 1 and member of the ADC Electoral Committee, Ibrahim Sidi Bamali, described the exercise as transparent, orderly, and free from violence or intimidation.
According to him, reports received from all eight local government areas confirmed that the election was conducted peacefully, with no incidents recorded throughout the exercise.
“We had a rancour-free exercise. There was no violence, no intimidation, and all our officers submitted their reports successfully.
Having satisfied the constitutional requirements of the party, we announced Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha as the duly returned aspirant who now becomes the party’s candidate,” Bamalli stated.
The Returning Officer disclosed that Khalid Soba, who was the sole aspirant in the contest, secured overwhelming support across the eight local government areas of the senatorial district.
The results showed that Ikara recorded 11,226 votes, Kudan 7,090 votes, Makarfi 6,368 votes, Sabon Gari 6,924 votes, Lere 6,217 votes, Soba 10,237 votes, Zaria 27,325 votes, and Kubau 7,683 votes.
The cumulative total stood at 83,070 votes, giving Khalid Soba a decisive victory in the primary election.
Bamali noted that while the Zone 1 electoral committee had completed its assignment and declared the authentic results, the formal confirmation and final declaration of the candidate would be conducted by the ADC State Returning Officer in Kaduna.
The peaceful conduct of the primary election has been widely hailed by party members as a demonstration of internal democracy and unity ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
With the outcome, Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha now moves forward as the ADC flag bearer for the Kaduna North Senatorial District, positioning himself for the next phase of the electoral contest.
