Former Kaduna State Governor, Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Kaduna North Senatorial seat after receiving overwhelming support from party delegates.
The results of the primary showed that Yero polled 6,060 votes, defeating his rivals, Muhammad Mu’azu Mukaddas who scored 1,044 votes, and Yusuf Bala Ikara who secured 372 votes.
The returning officer of the election, Hassan Saleh, announced the results on Monday in Zaria, confirming that the exercise was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
Yero previously served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2012 to 2015, following the death of former governor Patrick Yakowa in a plane crash.
Speaking after the announcement, Yero expressed appreciation to the party and delegates for conducting a transparent and fair primary election.
He called on his fellow aspirants to unite in order to ensure the APC’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
The former governor emphasized that unity and collective support among party members would be key to securing victory for the APC in Kaduna North.
Political observers say Yero’s victory reflects his popularity among party faithful and constituents in the zone.
The development is expected to strengthen the APC’s preparations ahead of the forthcoming elections with renewed confidence and cohesion.
