The Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, is exploring a strategic partnership with the Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD), Kenya, aimed at advancing vocational training, educational technology, research, and community development.
According to a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Vice-Chancellor, Sani Lawal Maqarphy, the initiative was discussed during a working visit by a delegation from FUE Zaria led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, to the headquarters of the Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD) in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
The statement explained that the engagement was designed to identify areas of mutual interest and establish a framework for collaboration that would integrate the university's academic expertise with CDTD's community-based development programmes.
It added that discussions during the meeting focused on five key areas, including curriculum and training collaboration, technology-enhanced learning, decent work and skills development, research and capacity building, as well as empowerment and community outreach programmes.
CDTD, a renowned non-governmental organisation based in Nairobi, has extensive experience in economic empowerment, domestic workers' welfare, and social justice advocacy.
The organisation's Executive Director, Ms. Edith Murogo, gained international recognition after receiving the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report Hero Award presented by the then United States Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor and members of his delegation held fruitful discussions with Ms. Murogo and Mr. Chrispin Kimani on potential areas of collaboration and strategies for implementation.
The proposed partnership is expected to leverage FUE Zaria's academic and technical expertise alongside CDTD's practical experience to promote human capital development, expand educational access, and strengthen community engagement across the region.
At the end of the discussions, both parties agreed to continue engagements on the operational framework, funding opportunities, and programme design necessary to formalise and implement the partnership.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the Acting Registrar, Malam Shehu Iya Sa'idu; Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Technology-Enhanced Learning (TeCETEL), Prof. Ilesanmi Ajibola; and the Dean, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, Prof. Kabir Haruna Danja.
