The Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC) of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has inaugurated an Energy Compliance Officer as part of efforts to support the university's drive to reduce energy consumption and electricity costs.
Speaking during the inauguration at the EMDC Boardroom on the university's Main Campus in Samaru, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Abdussalam Isma'ila Galadima, said the officer would champion energy conservation and promote the adoption of renewable energy across the institution.
He named Engineer Hassan Abdallah as the energy compliance officer of the centre, describing him as a dedicated and experienced officer capable of leading the initiative.
Galadima urged members of staff of the centre and the university community to cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances when not in use, saying the measure would help conserve energy, improve safety and reduce operational costs.
He said the officer would also organise training on the fabrication of solar panels and other renewable energy components to encourage the use of clean energy within the university.
According to him, the initiative is expected to significantly reduce the institution's electricity expenditure while promoting sustainable energy solutions.
Responding, the officer, Engineer Hassan Abdallah, thanked the director for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his responsibilities diligently.
He also called on the staff of the centre to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the university's energy compliance.
