The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna State Branch, Dr. Aisha Mustapha, has outlined an ambitious roadmap for improving doctors' welfare, protecting healthcare workers and strengthening healthcare services after making history as the first woman to lead the association in the state.
Addressing journalists after her election, Dr. Mustapha thanked doctors and dentists across Kaduna State for the confidence they placed in her leadership.
She described her election as a shared victory and pledged to justify the trust reposed in her by delivering on the promises contained in her manifesto.
She emphasised that the goals of her administration could only be achieved through unity and collaboration.
She therefore appealed to members of the State Officers' Committee, the State Executive Council, affiliate associations and all doctors and dentists in Kaduna State to support her administration in translating campaign promises into tangible achievements.
According to her, the new leadership will preserve the achievements of previous administrations while introducing reforms that place the welfare of doctors at the centre of the association's activities.
She explained that medical practitioners in different sectors face varying challenges and assured members that her administration would engage each affiliate to identify its specific needs and work together to find lasting solutions.
Dr. Mustapha said issues relating to salaries, professional allowances, call-duty payments and other welfare concerns would receive the attention they deserve through sustained dialogue with government and other relevant stakeholders.
She also identified the mental health and wellbeing of doctors as one of the major priorities of her administration.
She noted that the increasing workload on healthcare workers has contributed to burnout, stress and fatigue, making it difficult for doctors to provide the highest standard of care expected of them.
The NMA chairman further pledged to promote a safer working environment by collaborating with security agencies and other stakeholders to eliminate violence against healthcare workers.
She maintained that no doctor should be subjected to harassment or insecurity while providing medical services.
Dr. A'isha also expressed concern over the growing incidence of medical quackery in Kaduna State, describing it as a serious threat to public health.
She said her administration would strengthen advocacy, public enlightenment and collaboration with relevant authorities to curb the activities of unqualified medical practitioners.

She assured doctors and dentists that her administration would maintain an open-door policy, welcome constructive criticism and remain committed to serving the best interests of the medical profession and the people of Kaduna State.
