The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, led the groundbreaking ceremony for a series of Renewed Hope Legacy Projects in Zaria, describing them as strategic investments in education, youth empowerment, economic growth, and long-term security for the constituency.
Speaking at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Speaker Abbas said the projects—spanning agriculture, vocational training, sports development, women empowerment, research infrastructure, and road construction—align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and are designed to equip young people with skills that reduce vulnerability to crime and insecurity.
The Speaker described the ceremony as the beginning of a new chapter for the constituency, marking “a bold step into a future of learning, skills, innovation, and prosperity.”
He noted that despite ongoing security challenges across the country, progress is being made due to President Tinubu’s decisive leadership, new recruitment drives, and strengthened military and police operations.
“Our constituency must respond to the security situation by empowering our people. When young people gain skills, they find work. When they find work, they are less vulnerable to criminal networks. When opportunities expand, peace becomes stronger,” he stated.
Speaker Abbas laid the foundation for several major institutions under the Renewed Hope Legacy Projects, including: Federal Sports Academy, Zaria,
Federal Technical and Vocational Training Centre, Centre for Management Development, Construction of male and female students’ hostels at the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST)and Award of 250 fully funded scholarships for ND, OND, and HND students studying leather technology at NILEST.
The Speaker also flagged off major road construction works across the Zaria constituency, emphasizing that good roads are vital for agriculture, trade, security operations and community integration.
“We will ensure the highest quality of construction and timely completion,” he assured.
Speaker Abbas highlighted his earlier constituency interventions, which include the construction of schools, roads, healthcare facilities, boreholes, transformers, skill acquisition centres, as well as agricultural and trading support initiatives.
He said the new projects are part of a long-term plan to consolidate Zaria’s status as a centre of learning, enterprise, and peace.
He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, government agencies, traditional institutions, youth and women groups, and the people of Zaria for their support.
In his remarks, the Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas, commended the Speaker for what he described as an unprecedented wave of development projects transforming Zaria and neighbouring communities.
The Minister, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, praised the strong partnership between President Tinubu, the Kaduna State Governor, and the Speaker, noting that the results of their collaboration were evident in the numerous infrastructural and educational projects across the constituency.
