Zaria witnessed another milestone in infrastructural development as the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, commissioned the newly constructed Magajiya–Amaru Market road, including the Unguwar Liman/Albarkawa link road, in Zaria Local Government Area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Uba Sani expressed appreciation to the people of the area for their patience, cooperation, and support, noting that road construction remains a key priority of his administration.
According to the Governor, road projects go beyond connecting communities, as they also create economic opportunities and promote sustainable development.
He disclosed that within the last two and a half years, his administration has awarded over 800 kilometres of road projects across urban and rural areas, most of which have already been completed.
He added that an additional 500 kilometres of roads were awarded about four months ago, bringing the total length of roads initiated to approximately 1,335 kilometres, with more than half already completed.
Governor Uba Sani emphasized that despite the progress recorded, his administration remains committed to making Kaduna State a model of inclusive and sustainable development.
He noted that Kaduna is among seven states in Nigeria whose development framework is regarded as a pathway to peace and security.
The Governor urged residents to take ownership of the road and protect it to ensure its longevity.
He also commended the Magajiya and Amaru communities for their cooperation, revealing that the state government paid nearly ₦1 billion in compensation, while about 272 houses were affected during the execution of the project.
He praised traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, and community leaders for mobilising public support for the project,the construction company, Mothercat Nigeria Limited, was also commended for delivering the project to standard and installing streetlights.
Governor Uba Sani further announced that within six weeks, his administration would return to Zaria to commence additional road projects, including the Babban Dodo to Ƙofar Gayan road, aimed at improving infrastructure in densely populated and low-income communities to boost economic activities.
Also speaking, the Member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Zaria City Constituency, Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismail, who facilitated the project, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor on behalf of the people.
He described the road as a critical intervention that has significantly improved the lives of residents.
Hon. Ismail, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Deputy Chief Whip, stressed that investing in people—particularly through education and social development—remains a major achievement of the present administration.
He prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength for the Governor to sustain and expand developmental initiatives across the state.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jameelu Ahmad Muhammad, thanked the Governor for his commitment to development in the area, particularly in agriculture, education, and support for small-scale businesses.
The Project Manager, Ziyad Khaxim, disclosed that the road was completed within two months, while a representative of the community Alhaji Musa Ladan, described the project as a major boost to economic growth in the community.
He also commended Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismail for his determination in ensuring the successful execution of the project.
