The National Chairman of Jama'atu Izalatul Bid'ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, Shaikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reconsider the election timetable scheduled for February next year, which coincides with the holy month of Ramadan.
Shaikh Bala Lau made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Zaria.
He stated that there is a need for the electoral body to review the planned presidential election date, as it falls within a period when Muslims worldwide observe fasting, one of the five pillars of Islam.
He explained that conducting elections during Ramadan may pose challenges for Muslim faithful, as the month is dedicated to worship, spiritual reflection, and increased devotion to Allah.
In a related development, the Islamic scholar commended Makkah Salafiyya Academy in Samaru, Zaria, and praised its proprietor, Shaikh Jameelu Abubakar Albani, for his commitment to promoting education and youth development.
He advised Qur’anic memorizers to utilize their knowledge in becoming good ambassadors for their parents and the nation at large, noting that producing such scholars contributes significantly to peacebuilding and moral development in society.
Shaikh Bala Lau also urged parents to continue prioritizing the moral and religious upbringing of their children through proper Islamic education.
Furthermore, he called on Muslims to use the opportunity of Ramadan to pray for lasting peace and stability in the country.
He equally appealed to business owners to be considerate in their commercial activities during the fasting period by reducing prices and supporting citizens to ease economic hardship.
