A prominent community leader in Zazzau emirates, Hon. Sani Mahmoud Sha'aban, the Ɗan Buram Zazzau and Barden Keffi, has thrown his weight behind the Ambassadors of Zazzau Legacy Imprints (AZLI) movement, urging members to champion practical livelihood skills that can empower youths and drive community development.
Ɗan Buram Zazzau made the remarks when members of the AZLI Legacy Movement paid him a courtesy visit and formally presented his appointment as one of the patrons of the organization.
Speaking during the meeting, he emphasized the need for reforms in the education sector, noting that the current system focuses largely on producing graduates with academic certificates without equipping them with practical skills necessary for self-reliance.
According to him, several states in Southern Nigeria such as Lagos State, Ogun State, Osun State and Oyo State have begun integrating vocational training and Agricultural practice into their school systems.
He explained that many institutions in those states operate farms and small-scale industries attached to schools where students gain practical experience while studying, and the proceeds from the products help sustain the institutions.
Dan Buram Zazzau therefore encouraged the movement to initiate similar programmes in Zazzau and other parts of Northern Nigeria by promoting school farms, vocational centres and skill acquisition programmes.
He also noted that many indigenes of Zaria living in Europe and the United States possess knowledge, resources and connections that could support such initiatives if properly mobilized.
The members of the movement also visited their Grand Patron, Malam Magaji Ɗan Aljannah, where official appointments were presented to members of the organization.
In his remarks, Malam Magaji Ɗan Aljannah expressed delight over the initiative and described the movement as a noble effort aimed at promoting community development.
He likened the movement to a young child that requires encouragement and support to grow and achieve its mission.
According to him, anyone who truly has the interest of his community at heart would find it difficult not to support such a movement because of its focus on service and societal development.
He further noted that although such initiatives are often expected from government institutions, it is commendable that concerned citizens have taken the lead in promoting development and humanitarian service.
Earlier, the President of the movement, Ambassador Nuruddeen Nuruddeen Sambo, explained that the organization—Ambassadors of Zazzau Legacy Imprimts (AZLI)—was established to identify, recognise and celebrate individuals who have left remarkable legacies in society.
Ambassador Sambo, who is a lecturer at the Federal University of Education, Zaria and Deputy Director at the institution’s Directorate of Professional Diploma in Education, said the movement was founded on three core visions.
He said the first is to identify individuals who have positively impacted society through leadership and service; the second is to publicly recognise and appreciate their contributions; while the third is to mobilise the community to uphold such legacies as inspiration for future generations.
Ambassador Sambo cited examples on notable personalities whose contributions have shaped the development of Zazzau, including Dr. M. I. Maccido, a former Provost of the Federal College of Education, Zaria, who reportedly facilitated employment opportunities for over 3,000 people.
He also mentioned Professor Shafi'u Muhammad, the Wakilin Makarantar Zazzau, who he said also contributed immensely by providing thousands of job opportunities within the community.
Describing AZLI as “a movement for all,” Ambassador Sambo emphasized that the initiative is not tied to any individual or political interest but is open to everyone willing to serve humanity.
“We initiated this movement not because we are above anyone or because we have much, but because we have little to offer to society. We are calling on people in Zazzau, Kaduna State and across Nigeria to join hands in helping the helpless through humanitarian and community services,” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the movement, Hauwa Gidado Bello, explained that the organization has put structures in place to ensure effective implementation of its programmes.
She noted that after consultations with the leadership, the movement resolved to organise most of its activities on a quarterly basis to ensure proper coordination and impact.
Hauwa Bello added that the organization is also seeking collaboration with relevant government ministries and institutions that can support its programmes aimed at improving the welfare of communities.
The AZLI Legacy Movement continues to position itself as a platform dedicated to promoting unity, service and sustainable community empowerment in Zazzau and beyond.
