A powerful delegation of political stakeholders from Zone 1 of Kaduna State on Friday paid a strategic visit to the residence of former Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero, appealing to him to accept their collective request to contest for the Kaduna North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The delegation was led by the ALGON Chairman of Kaduna state and Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government, Hon. Jameelu Abubakar Albani, and comprised all eight local government chairmen from the zone, councillors, members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, party leaders, women, youths, and other critical stakeholders across the Kaduna North Senatorial Zone.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Albani said the appeal was driven by what he described as widespread support across Zone 1. He noted that Dr. Yero’s governance record, integrity, and leadership experience made him a strong contender to represent the zone at the National Assembly.
“We are here on behalf of our people to respectfully urge you to answer this call to service. Your experience and credibility are exactly what our zone needs at this critical time,” he said.
Responding to the appeal, former Governor Yero, who also holds the traditional titles of Dallatun Zazzau and Sardaunan Jama’a, expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for the visit and the confidence reposed in him by the leaders of Zone 1.
He described the visit by the local government chairmen, APC party chairmen, councillors, and other stakeholders as a significant call to service.
He stated that as a Muslim, when people call upon one to undertake a responsibility for the common good, it becomes a duty to accept.
Yero formally accepted the request and pledged to do his best, praying for Allah’s guidance and victory in the journey ahead.
He also appreciated the other seven local governments in the zone for supporting “a son of Zaria” to represent the entire Kaduna North Senatorial Zone, describing the gesture as one of unity and trust.
The former governor further called on party members and the general public to remain patient and continue supporting the All Progressives Congress despite current challenges, expressing optimism that better days lie ahead.
Other stakeholders who spoke in support of the appeal included the member representing Zaria Kewaye at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Isa Haruna Babanyaya; Hon. Dauda Iliya, Chairman of Kudan Local Government; Hon. Jamilu Ahmed (JAGA); Chairman Zaria Local Government and Barrister A’isha Muhammad. They all emphasized the need for unity and strategic leadership ahead of the elections.
The meeting drew a large number of APC supporters, reflecting growing grassroots mobilisation around the former governor’s potential candidacy.
Hon. Yakubu Soja delivered the vote of thanks, commending Dr. Yero for what he described as a timely acceptance of the call to serve.
