A member of the House of Representatives representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, has commenced a six-day free medical outreach aimed at providing accessible healthcare services to about 10,000 constituents.
The outreach, which began on 28th September and will run until 4th October 2026, is being held at Saidu Dange Railway Hospital, Sabon Gari, Zaria, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
The programme provides a range of free medical services, including consultation, drugs, laboratory tests, blood grouping, hepatitis and HIV/AIDS screening, malaria and diabetes testing, prostate cancer screening, ultrasound scans and reading glasses.
The surgical component of the outreach also covers general and gynaecological surgeries, including procedures for hernia and hydrocele, while specialist consultants are expected to perform cataract surgeries and other necessary operations.
Speaking during the commencement of the exercise, the leader of the medical team, Dr. Haruna Kigo, said the outreach was designed to assist people who face financial difficulties in accessing healthcare services.
Dr. Kigo said the medical team was targeting about 10,000 beneficiaries, with approximately 400 patients expected to undergo surgical procedures, adding that the services were completely free and beneficiaries would not be required to pay for registration cards or treatment.
He described the initiative as a partnership that would bring healing and goodwill to residents of Sabon Gari and Kaduna State, while calling on other elected representatives to replicate similar programmes in their constituencies.
The Medical Director of Saidu Dange Railway Hospital, Dr. Ibrahim Sani, commended Hon. Sadiq Ango for the initiative, saying many residents served by the facility could not afford even basic medical expenses.
Dr. Sani also appreciated the lawmaker for his intervention in improving security and infrastructure at the hospital, expressing confidence that the facility would receive further improvements.
Also speaking the Dan Barhin Zazzau and District Head of Sabon Gari, Alhaji Ahmad Bashar Aminu, described the initiative as an important undertaking, given its direct relevance to the health and well-being of the people.
He commended Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi for the laudable effort and his contribution towards improving healthcare delivery in the area.
In his remarks, Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi said the current exercise was the fourth medical outreach he had organised for constituents, describing it as a service to humanity rather than a political activity.
He encouraged other legislators at both the National and State Assemblies to support similar healthcare initiatives, stressing that collective efforts were needed to address the health challenges facing communities.
The lawmaker also urged residents to make informed decisions during elections and said his priority remained putting the interests of the people first.
Ango thanked all participants and stakeholders for their contributions towards the success of the programme.
The event was attended by the District Head of Basawa, the representative of the Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, politicians, community leaders, and other residents of Sabon Gari Local Government Area.
