Students of Elsa College for Advanced Studies (ECAS) have organised an award ceremony in Zaria to honour the member representing Zaria City Constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Mahmud Lawal Ismail (Bola Ige), in recognition of his sponsorship of 250 students’ education.

The colourful event, held at the hall of Al-Hudahuda College in Zaria, was planned entirely by the students as a show of appreciation for the lawmaker’s commitment to their academic development through scholarships facilitated under ECAS.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Mahmoud Lawal said he was pleasantly surprised by the scale of the programme and the outpouring of appreciation from the students.

He noted that he attended as a special guest without prior knowledge of the honours awaiting him, describing the gesture as humbling and deeply encouraging.

He assured the students of his continued support, pledging to sustain assistance for their education up to degree level, while urging them to remain focused and hardworking.

According to him, education remains the most reliable tool for personal growth, youth empowerment, and community development, especially in a town like Zaria with a large youth population.

The lawmaker highlighted three milestones he considers unforgettable in his public service journey. First, the introduction of Qur’anic Science education into Nigeria’s learning framework, which he described as a historic step with lasting moral and academic value. Second, the establishment of a Kaduna State University (KASU) centre in Zaria, where the first batch of 250 students is expected to complete their studies soon. Third, the heartfelt gifts and awards presented to him by the students.

Other dignitaries at the event commended the lawmaker’s efforts and urged him not to relent. They also called on constituents to continue supporting him with prayers and cooperation to enable more developmental initiatives across the constituency.

Among those who spoke were the member representing Zaria Kewaye constituency, Hon. Isa Haruna Babanyaya (Ihamo); Shehu Mohammed of Kwarbai Ward, who also serves as Personal Assistant to the member as well as the Financial Secretary of APC in  Zaria Local Government; and the APC Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Hon. Ishaq Baba Sale. All praised the initiative and encouraged sustained investment in education as a pathway to progress.

The students said organising the ceremony was their way of expressing gratitude for the opportunity given to them, adding that the scholarship has renewed their hope for a brighter future.
