Taskira Newspaper honoured Makumbo Memorial Clinic and Maternity, Zaria in recognition of the hospital’s outstanding contributions to community healthcare.
The award ceremony was held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Youth Centre in Tudun Wada, Zaria.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the hospital’s Secretary, Falalu Balarabe, expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, noting that despite the presence of many healthcare facilities, the newspaper chose to honour their clinic because of its compassionate service to the public.
He attributed the achievement to the visionary leadership of the hospital’s head, Dr. Ado Zakari Muhammad, who consistently reminds staff that the community comes first above all else, urging them to seize every opportunity to assist those in need.
Falalu explained that although the clinic is privately owned, they attend to patients even when they cannot afford to pay. Emergency care is provided first, while discussions about payment are deferred until the patient is able, a practice he said has saved many lives and eased the burden on families seeking medical help.
He called on other private healthcare providers to adopt a similar humanitarian approach by prioritizing human life over financial gain, stressing that such a mindset would bring meaningful reform to the healthcare sector and strengthen public trust in medical institutions.
He added that the award would further motivate the staff to intensify their dedication to service, especially knowing that their efforts have been recognized by a media organization.
The event was attended by many residents from Zaria and surrounding areas, who commended the clinic for helping to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery within the community.
