Speaking at the event, Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, Member of the House of Representatives representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on FERMA, said the project is part of development plans outlined for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.
He explained that some projects that could not be executed last year have now commenced by the grace of God.
He disclosed that several road projects are in the pipeline, with the Basawa–Samaru road being the first among about six projects lined up for execution.
Hon. Sadiq further stated that one of the major needs of the Basawa area is the rehabilitation of schools, noting that about seven schools and several Primary Health Care centres are included among projects scheduled for implementation this year.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Basawa and Sabon Gari at large for their support, cooperation and confidence in his representation, assuring them of continued efforts to improve living conditions and promote community development.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining empowerment programmes for youths, women and small-scale business owners.
In his remarks, Engineer Kabiru Iliyasu, Kaduna State Engineer of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the gathering was to officially flag off the construction of roads and drainage systems from Basawa to Samaru, a project facilitated by the Member representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency.
He explained that FERMA is supervising the project as the client, ensuring that all specifications and construction standards are strictly followed.
Engineer Kabiru stated that the project covers road rehabilitation and drainage construction from Basawa to Dogon Ice, spanning approximately 2.7 kilometres, and according to the contract agreement, the project is expected to last six months.
He assured that FERMA would continuously monitor the project to guarantee quality delivery and proper completion, adding that the public would ultimately appreciate the standard of the work.
He therefore appealed to residents to exercise patience and comply with traffic regulations, especially road signs such as “Stop” and “No Entry,” during the construction period.
The District Head of Basawa, Alhaji Haruna Abubakar Bamalli, expressed great happiness over the commencement of the project and prayed for its safe execution and successful completion.
He noted that the project would significantly enhance development in the area, transforming it from a rural settlement into a more urban environment, while also expressing hope that the road would eventually be extended up to 10 miles for greater public benefit.
On his part, the member representing Basawa Ward at the Kaduna state house of assembly described the road as one of the most important routes in the area and assured that close monitoring would be carried out to ensure the project is properly executed.
Similarly, the Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Hon. Jamilu Abubakar Albani, described the occasion as a moment of joy, saying the quality of representation being enjoyed by the people is commendable, while expressing hope for increased development projects.
Also speaking, a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Sabon Gari Local Government, Hon. Ali Usman Baba, thanked the large crowd that attended the event.
The ceremony was attended by religious leaders, politicians, community leaders, women groups and other members of the public.
